LegalAidProtestOn Monday 6th Jan there is a half day strike by criminal barristers (lawyers) in Britain. This is the first strike by lawyers in British history, and is against cuts to the government legal aid.

Demonstration: In London the Justice Alliance has called a demonstration outside Westminster Magistrates Court from 9.30-10.30. See:

Pickets and Protests: Below are details of pickets and protests in different areas and times when the Criminal Bar Association’s message to the government will be read out:

The South Eastern

London: Snaresbrook and Central Criminal Court

The CBA message will be read at 10.30

Southwark: The message will be read by the Chairman at 10.45 on arrival from Justice Alliance Meeting.

Meet at 10.15 , message to be read at 10.30 at:

Norfolk /Suffolk: Norwich

Cambs/Essex: Chelmsford

Bedfordshire: St Albans

Thames Valley: Oxford

Surrey/Sussex: Chichester

Kent: Maidstone

The Northern

Assemble at 10.00. Meetings will take place outside the following Courts; Manchester, Liverpool and Preston. The CBA message will be read at 10.30. Disperse at 11.00.

The Midlands

Assemble at 10.00 outside Birmingham Crown Court. The CBA message will be read at 10.30.  The members will move to St Phillips Chambers for a Circuit meeting.

North Eastern

Assemble at 10.00 outside the following Crown Courts; Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Sheffield, Bradford, Hull and Leeds.

The CBA message will be read at 10.30.


Assemble outside the following Crown Courts; Cardiff Crown Court, Swansea and Mold Crown Court at 10am.

The message will read in Welsh and English at 10.30.

Western Circuit

Meetings have been arranged for the following cities for 10.30.
